Red abalone (Haliotis rufescens) is a species of large, edible sea snail, commonly found along the Pacific coast of North America, from Baja California to Alaska.Red abalone has a distinctive oval-shaped shell with a vibrant red to pinkish-red interior, which gives it its name. They are typically found in rocky coastal areas, clinging to rocks or submerged in shallow waters up to depths of about 30 meters (100 feet).
