Caranguejo espinhoso completo raro, com 5 milhões de anos - Carapaça fóssil - Charybdis

Museum specimen of spiny Fossil Crab Charybdis from the Lower Pliocene of Bodjong formation, Java, Indonesia. A stunning prepared 3D specimen , both sides are visible. Male specimen. The specimen preserves 7 of 8 the legs, one swimming leg, spiny claws and carapace, natural on its matrix, not glued. Specimens that present all the legs are very uncommon for many reasons: Once the specimen dies, it disarticulates. The second reason is that local collectors, when extracting them from the matrix, ruin them regardless of the presence of the legs. In this specimen all the legs are present, many legs are complete up to the nail. "Post Mortem" the legs contract under the claws, this is the natural way all the fossil crabs are found. The matrix has been worked to show as more as possible of the specimen, as you can see by the picture showing how it was collected. Crab is 10 cm large from leg to leg. Carapace is 6 cm wide. Matrix is 13 x 10 cm . Both Claws are stunning, preserveing all the spines on merus and prodopus. The mouth preserve the mandibula! A painstaking work of many days was necessary to expose this specimen and preserve all those tiny details on the claws and on legs. All the parts of the specimen are original, not a composition, with no restorations, not glued matrix, not pieces from other specimens. 100% original fossil. The fingers of the claw have been glued during preparation. Rare museum specimen.
