The year 1870 refers to the Solera of this particular Brandy. If you know how the Solera of a Brandy works the first lot of this particular brandy was made in 1870 then part of the brandy is removed from the botas or barrels and is refilled with new vintage brandy, this happens every year from the first vintage the brandy was made. So part of the brandy will still be from 1870 and every year new brandy will be added to the barrels, this is what solera is all about. mixing new brandy with the first brandy ever made and all the vintages ever since. The possition of the barrels all pilled up refers to which brandys are from newer or older vintages always moving the brandy from top to botom being the bottom barrels the ones containing older brandy. So in fact part of the brandy in these bottles will be from 1870 and from all the vintages since then until the brandy in the bottle was bottled.
