Château Pontet Canet 5th Grand Cru Classé 2016
The vintage

The wines of Château Pontet Canet, certified biodynamic since 2010, reveal the characteristics of the great Pauillacs: concentration, and complex aromas of cedar and black fruits. Over time, we notice that they have gained in freshness and balance, revealing, in addition, notes of red fruits and morello cherry. The palate is sublime, of a breed apart, with a silky, almost Burgundian expression.
The success of its wine, the property owes it in particular to Alfred Tesseron who runs it and who was assisted by Jean-Michel Comme until 2020 (giving way to Mathieu Bessonnet). The philosophy of the property sees this land as a real garden to be tended with love, like a child. This is why, but also for the health of the men and women who work there, the culture is certified biodynamic (a first in the bosom of the great classified Bordeaux growths) and the rhythm of life, respected.
In the cellar, you can imagine that the work is just as careful. If the blend is composed of cabernet-sauvignon (majority), merlot and cabernet-franc, a small proportion (1%) of petit verdot can be added during certain vintages in order to offer a beautiful complexity to the wine. Furthermore, the wine is aged in barrels with a proportion of new wood of no more than a third. And this, for sixteen to twenty months. A small innovation, but not the least: if two thirds of the wine is aged in wood, the remaining third rests in amphora.
The Château Pontet-Canet estate

Since its creation at the beginning of the 17th century, Château Pontet-Canet has only had three families of owners. The estate was created by Jean-François de Pontet, grand equerry of the king who became governor of the Médoc. A few years later, his descendants expanded the vineyard with plots from the Canet place. Classified in 1855, the property was bought in 1865 by Hermann Cruse, a famous Bordeaux merchant, who promoted it throughout the world. The property has belonged to the Tesseron family since 1975. Guy Tesseron has carried out a significant modernization of the equipment, but also of the winemaking techniques. Today, his sons Alfred and Gérard Tesseron manage the estate, accompanied by Mathieu Bessonnet and the advice of Michel Rolland.
In the heart of Pauillac, the 81 hectares of the vineyard, neighboring Mouton Rothschild, are planted on a ridge of Garonne gravel and sand. It is a revolution initiated by Alfred Tesseron and Jean-Michel Comme (who left the property in 2020) in the mid-2000s by converting the premier cru classé of the Médoc to biodynamics. This duo has managed to raise this fifth cru classé to the level of the greatest Bordeaux wines. So much so that ten years later, Pontet-Canet is emulating others. For the aging process too, nothing is left to chance. The estate's teams are constantly innovating to create the greatest wines. The aging lasts between 16 and 20 months in oak barrels renewed by about two thirds each year and, since 2012, in amphorae (for 1/3). The shape of the latter was designed at the château for an ideal balance between fat and tension in the wines.

Objet arrivé endommagé et la seule réponse du vendeur a été de me proposer la livraison de trois bouteilles dont je n'avais pas besoin. Demandé à nouveau un nouveau coffret et plus aucune réponse !
