It’s a heavy and solid plaque with a thick edge of 0,7 cm; without damage, the pictures
show what you are purchasing ; a splendid art deco object.
Explanation : Marcel Renard (1893- 1974) was a famous French sculptor and medallist.
He studied at the Ecoles des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and Paris. He won the Second Grand Prix
de Rome. He produced several works for the Paris Mint and was one of the most famous
medallists of his age.
He also realised public monuments, fountains and sculptures for the Salon International des
Arts Decoratifs of 1925, which gave birth to the expression Art deco. He won a gold medal
at this event.
Sculptures by Renard are held by many important public collections, including that of
the Dansmuseet in Stockholm, the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Lyon, the Victoria and Albert
Museum in London, the Design Museum in Ghent and the Musée des Années Trente,
Boulogne Billancourt near Paris, the principal French museum dedicated to the Art
Deco movement.
