Exceedingly difficult to find - an original Heart Shield Bible, from 1943 when these shields were sold (The shield / bible itself is also dated 1943) WITH!! the original maling box; it was a gift to the soldier from his mom (see inscription). The bible is named to Eldon Hackett, born in 1922, and passed away in 1975. I have not done more research on him, I presume ernest was his nickname because it is written on the box. Both the bible and box are in nice condition; the cover has a beautiful patina and has some of the gold finish still. The metal plates were to prevent a bullet from reaching the soldier’s heart (which they did on several occasions. surface of the bible has a great patina and has the text: ''May this keep you safe from harm''. A very nice 100% original item for your US WW2 collection; will for sure be a centerpiece in your collection!
