This stunning lacquer and wood sculpture, titled "Golden Pheasant" by renowned craftsman Yokoyama Gyokuho(1907-1970), showcases the exquisite artistry of Japanese lacquerware from the Showa period. Crafted from wood and lacquered with a rich combination of black and vermillion, this piece is adorned with nashiji, a technique where fine gold flakes are sprinkled onto wet lacquer, creating a luxurious shimmering effect. The piece also features accents of fine raden (mother-of-pearl), which are meticulously sprinkled in a nashiji-like manner, adding further depth and beauty to the sculpture.

The Golden Pheasant has been carefully carved and polished, resulting in a beautifully smooth and glossy surface. It exhibits intricate details and elegant curves, capturing the grace of the bird in a strikingly modern yet traditional aesthetic. The artist's signature is found on the bottom of the sculpture, and the lid of the original wooden box includes a handwritten signature and seal, authenticating the work.

Yokoyama Gyokuho was a celebrated artist in the field of lacquer art, participating in numerous exhibitions and winning multiple awards throughout his career. In 1961, he won the prestigious Hokuto Prize at the Contemporary Craft Exhibition, reflecting his exceptional skill and artistry. As a member of the Inami Cultural Property Protection Committee, he dedicated himself to preserving cultural heritage and served as the chairman of the Inami Lacquerware Association.

The condition of the piece is excellent, with no noticeable scratches or stains. Please refer to the photos for further details on the condition.
