This nice silver ring features a flat-section hoop with flaring shoulders, intricately pierced with pelta-shaped openings. The bezel cell is set with a green jasper intaglio, engraved with the image of a right-facing Satyr.
In Roman mythology, a satyr is a woodland deity associated with Dionysian revelry, known for its lascivious and hedonistic nature. Satyrs are often depicted as part human and part goat, with human torsos and heads, goat-like legs, and sometimes horns and tails. They embody the spirit of the wild, untamed nature, and are often shown engaging in drinking, dancing, and pursuing nymphs. The satyr's Roman counterpart is the faun, which shares similar characteristics and associations with nature and fertility.
