Indus Valley Pottery Bowl with Painted Fish
Circa 3rd millennium BC
This lovely pottery bowl exhibits a flaring profile with a rounded base. The exterior is adorned with a pair of fish with elongated bodies and hatched designs imitating the scales.
The Indus Valley Civilization, one of the world's oldest urban cultures, thrived in the northwestern regions of the Indian subcontinent around 3300–1300 BC. Stretching across present-day Pakistan and northwest India, this ancient civilization boasted well-planned cities, advanced drainage systems, and a sophisticated understanding of urban planning.
