An exceptional Chinese porcelain hexagonal pattipan or serving dish for sweets with a central decoration of the Daoist immortal Magu (the Protector of Women and Longevity) with one of her two daughters, standing under a tree next to a pierced rock in a beautiful Landscape, executed in a deep cobalt underglaze blue. In the border a classical decoration of repetitive lotus roots, executed in black over green enamel. Handcrafted in ancient China during the Qing dynasty, Kangxi reign (1662-1722), ca. 1700. Guaranteed original and of the stated period.
Magu/Mago is the Godess of Hemp (Cannabis), Longevity (she could live to a thousand years), protector of Women and depicted as a beautiful lady with long nails (which she is hiding in her sleeves on this saucer) and carrying a bag with medicinal herbs. Ofter depicted with her Deer and often mistaken for Guanyin. She has two daughters, who in turn each give birth to four daughters. Mago’s eight granddaughters create music attuned with Mago and move the “eight planets” in harmony with Mago’s vibration. The granddaughters are proto-humans, establishing four races. They in turn give birth to male and female humans, establishing the sexes.
