Indus Valley Pottery Bowl with Ibex
Circa 3rd millennium BC
This pottery bowl has a slightly rounded base and a flaring profile leading to a wide opening. The exterior is adorned with a dark-painted stylised depiction of an ibex.
The ibex is a wild goat species belonging to the genus Capra, notable for its impressive climbing abilities and distinct physical characteristics. Ibexes are characterized by their robust bodies, short legs, and long, curved horns, which can reach up to 1 meter in males. Their horns are adorned with ridges and are a significant feature used in mating displays and territorial battles.
