Esmeralda sobre calcita cinza - Mina Muzo, Boyacá, Andes, Colômbia - Altura: 4.9 cm - Largura: 4.3 cm- 66 g

Watch a video of this specimen by following the Vimeo link below: https://vimeo.com/988589460 Only precious beryl variety and part of the prestigious trinity of colourful precious stones with ruby and sapphire corundum, emerald has an unique place in history and has been highly valued for its extraordinary shades of green since more than 4000 years. It became in use as a commodity money in the Fertile Crescent and decorated the powerful Pharaoh's sarcophagus. The name emerald itself derives from 'zamarat' in Persian, meaning heart of stone, literally the most essential and highest spiritual value 'organ' the mountains can offer. Here is a good specimen of saturated colour emerald on matrix, from the most famous locality for this precious stone and main provider of fine jewellery-grade crystals: Muzo, in the Colombian Andes! It features a 1.0 cm terminated emerald crystal on a contrasting grey schist-included calcite matrix. The beryl displays a lustrous top flat face and moderatly lustrous hexagonal prism faces. Notice that most emeralds from Muzo are sold for jewellery use since miners can get much more money selling them to the luxury industry than as mineral specimens. It is consequently quite hard today to obtain a quality emerald specimen at a fair price for a collector. I was lucky to buy a 'sleeping' stock from the 2000's, which allows me to offer this specimen up for auction: this is by far the biggest crystal on matrix! A good opportunity to obtain a colourful and quite big gem emerald on matrix from Colombia!
