An exquisite Napoléon III era gilt brass or bronze octagonal jewelry box with enameled medallion to the hinged lid, measuring 13cm in length and weighing 427g, decorated to the front and back with applied sphinx ornaments flanking a ribboned wreath, to the sides with griffins flanking a vase with palmette, the corners adorned with classical figures, symmetrically cast. The lid has a very finely chiseled acanthus leaf rim, central medallion depicting the portrait of a young lady in silhouette in polychrome enamels, signed by the artist, surrounded by four swan caryatids. Condition: Very good, no significant damages or repairs. Minor wear commensurate with age and handling. The gilding is in a good condition.
