Indus Valley Pottery Bowl with Ibexes
Circa 3rd millennium BC
This pottery bowl tapers to a small flat circular base. The exterior is decorated with a register of stylised depictions of ibexes between horizontal bands above and below.
The ibex is a wild goat species belonging to the genus Capra, notable for its impressive climbing abilities and distinct physical characteristics. Ibexes are characterized by their robust bodies, short legs, and long, curved horns, which can reach up to 1 meter in males. Their horns are adorned with ridges and are a significant feature used in mating displays and territorial battles.
