This is one of the rarest vintages in Rioja and unknown wines produced by Bodegas Bilbaínas in the first half of the 20th century.
There is not much information available about its vinification. A very limited production was vinified during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) in a big wooden vat, from the founding period of the winery (1901) for 18 months. It was supposed to be bottled gradually in the course of 1944-1945, but the post-war consequences in Spain stopped the bottling. The wine was not bottled, due to the serious financial difficulties experienced at the time by the winery in the postwar period. The wine remained in centenary "barricas" from 1941 to 1952, more than 11 years. Bottled directly from the cask, one by one. Not filtered. Currently, it would be classified "Gran Reserva" by the Regulatory Board of Rioja.
