This bronze sculpture represents the god Jupiter standing, with a mantle covering his left shoulder and surrounding his hips. In his right hand he holds an object, which is probably a thunderbolt. Jupiter (also known as Zeus in Greek mythology), was the king of the gods in Roman mythology, the god of thunder, light and sky, storms and lightning. Like Zeus, Jupiter was a god who ruled from the sky itself and controlled the weather, especially thunder and lightning, but he was also the god of law and order, as well as the protector of the state, the Roman people and the family.
