EAT
Michiko Kon
Shougakukan/1991/Japanese/260×220×13mm
EAT" is a collection of photographs by Japanese female photographer Michiko Kon. According to the photographer, "I want to express myself using all the senses of the human body, including the sensation of the teeth, hands, ears, eyes, and skin, and I want people to feel them. The "EAT" series may be a kind of tactile and sensory menu for restaurants. This is a collection of the early works of Michiko Kon, who is famous for objects created from foodstuffs, insects, plants, and other materials with her unique world view, and was awarded the Kimura Ihei Prize. The intense still life seen in the seemingly esoteric titles such as "Goldfish, Salmon Roe and Toothbrush," "Vegetables and Panty Stockings," "Kohada's Bra," "Mr. Cabbage and Son," and "Sardines and Safety Pins. In "The Fish," the filmmaker seeks redemption and eternity by photographing fish, and hopes for rebirth by "objectifying fish." A strange and sensually tantalizing fantastical new world expressed through the intersection of life, death, the body, and time.
