Bloody Moon

Keiko Nomura
Fuyuseisha/2006/Japanese/232 × 207 mm

This book is the result of the composition of four mental images pursued by the photographer.
While each of these four images has its own unique resonance, they resonate together as a whole to form a single piece of music that is this book of photographs.
The photographer's mental image is the elusiveness of an idea that no amount of imagery can capture, the confirmation that one's roots lie far back in time, the indistinctness of my existence, and the relationship with nature that one encounters when recalling a deceased acquaintance.

In a word, this collection of photographs is a response to the mental images that photographers have been trying to capture, but have been unable to do so.
The fact that the photographs in this collection were taken in South India, Hawaii, Osaka, Okinawa, Amami, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Taiwan, Bali, and Fukui may or may not be of particular significance.
The photographer's initial choice of these locations may have been inevitable, but in the end, the result is a composition that relegates such considerations to the background.
For the photographer, it was a necessary way to express an elusive mental image.
