【About Fujishima Tomoshige(藤島友重)】
Fujishima Tomoshige's work is known for the beauty of its blades. He was a student of Rai Kunitoshi(来国俊)and moved to Echizen in the middle of the Kamakura period (1324). The Fujishima family has been a prestigious swordsmith family for 540 years until the end of the Edo period.
One of the characteristics of Tomoshige Fujishima's works is that they show glimpses of Yamato-style(大和風) or Yamashiro-style(山城風) ground iron. This piece also has "Itame-hada" (板目肌) and "Masame-hada" (柾目肌). In general, the ground iron is well wrought, and the skin patterns of the iron are beautifully expressed.
