This print by Kunisada Utagawa depicts Nakamura Utaemon IV as Shin Chunagon Tomomori in the kabuki play "Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura."
Depiction of a famous scene from the Tale of Heike, which is an epic retelling of key events from the battle between the Taira and the Minamoto clan during the 12th century:
Taira no Tomomori has been defeated by the Minamoto forces, and arrows stick out of his body. Heavily wounded, he clutches his naginata poleaxe to remain upright. The warrior will commit suicide by throwing himself into the sea, tying an anchor to his feet. One of the most iconic images in ukiyo-e.

Condition: A few holes. Otherwise unbacked and with wonderful color and ink showing on the back of the print. Untrimmed. Ideal candidate for careful restoration.
