R. López de Heredia, Viña Tondonia tinto 2001 Reserva

The winery - López De Heredia Viña Tondonia

This historic winery is located in Haro (Rioja Alta). Needless to say, it is a historic winery, with more than 138 years of history. This was the first in Haro and the third to be established in La Rioja. The name comes from the same Viña Tondonia estate, a majestic vineyard with a total of 100 hectares planted in 1913. The name has become great thanks to the fame of its aging wines. The production process has been transmitted from generation to generation, leaving a perennial legacy of tradition, breaking away from temporary fashions and offering unique and historical wines. The search for maximum quality is a daily challenge at López de Heredia, which is why during vinification, aging and bottle aging, every drop of wine is taken care of down to the last detail so that year after year we can enjoy these great wines.

Wine area - D.O.Ca. Rioja

Rioja, the first Qualified Designation of Origin in Spain, achieved in 1991. It is located between three autonomous communities, Rioja, the Basque Country and Navarra, and at the same time, it is divided into three subzones, Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and La Rioja Alavesa. Eastern Rioja. The first two are marked by a continental climate while the eastern one enjoys a Mediterranean influence. The Ebro River irrigates the vineyards, among which red varieties dominate, Tempranillo being the most relevant grape, along with Mazuelo and Garnacha, which is found in the eastern part. In addition to reds, we find white wines made mostly with Viura, which are increasingly being made. La Rioja made its place among the best in the world when phylloxera devastated French vineyards. The Bordeaux wineries looked at this area for various factors and brought varieties, professionals, technique and 225L barrels. It is a denomination that has been able to adapt to changes, maintaining its traditional varieties. The classification of their wines lies in the time they are aged, from the Generic to the Gran Reserva, although recently a classification has been added according to their origin, giving value to the “terroir”. There is always something new to discover in La Rioja, don't miss it...
