Born in 1855, Georges-Édouard Piaget was a renowned Swiss watchmaker. Passionate about the world of watchmaking, he did his apprenticeship in a small workshop located in the Swiss Jura, where he learned all the secrets of the watchmaking profession. Son of a farmer, it was in the village of Côte-aux-Fées in Switzerland, on the family farm, that he set up his first workshop in 1874. His small business then manufactured pocket watches and watch movements. high precision that renowned brands will quickly order from it.

The company grew very quickly and Georges-Édouard Piaget's reputation quickly spread beyond the surrounding mountains of Neuchâtel. The major watch brands, considering the Piaget name as a guarantee of quality and expertise, order movements from it and thus contribute to the watchmaker's strong reputation. Piaget moved a few meters further to open a second workshop, then a third, larger one, in order to meet growing demand. Finally, in 1910, he decided to abandon his workshop to move into larger premises, more suited to accommodating the numerous employees that the company now had. In 1911, Georges-Édouard Piaget decided to hand over the reins and it was his son Timothée who took over the family business. Three years after the death of Georges-Édouard Piaget in 1931, the company was no longer content with its status as a subcontractor and chose to launch its own brand.
