The surface of the lid, made of urushi-nuri lacquer, a traditional craft, is decorated with a pair of gold-colored cranes in maki-e lacquer.
The back of the box has been sprayed with what looks like gold dust, making it sparkle.
There are no scratches.

This is a high-class small box telegram mount with a lacquer-lacquered lid, on which fluttering cranes are depicted in gold maki-e lacquer.
