Chartreuse Verde unisce 130 erbe, fiori, radici e spezie, alcol di barbabietola come base, zucchero bianco a dolcificare. L'imbottigliamento è a 55%vol. Invecchia almeno 3 anni in botte grande di rovere francese.
Da sempre consumato liscio o con un cubetto di ghiaccio per stemperare il tenore alcolico, in realtà è uno degli ingredienti di celebri cocktail internazionali come il Last Word, Chartreuse Swizzle e Bijou.
Dalla scoperta del misterioso manoscritto che riportava la ricetta dell'elisir di lunga vita, venne prodotta una prima versione dell'elisir nel monastero di Vauvert a Parigi fino al 1737. Da allora al 1864 l'Elixir Vegetal viene elaborato nella farmacia del monastero della Grande Chartreuse, dove, nel 1764, padre Jerome Maubec definisce la prima ricetta, aggiungendo zucchero e abbassando il grado alcolico, lavorando per raggiungere il colore verde. La Chartreuse Verde come la conosciamo oggi nasce dalla formula di 130 erbe nel 1840.
