Henriette Davidis-Holle - Praktisches Kochbuch & Universal-Lexicon der Kochkunst - 1900-1909

1) Universal-Lexicon der Kochkunst (8 improved and expanded edition) - 3 volumes - 1909

Beautiful lexicon with a lot of gorgeous illustrations in B&W and colour published in 1909 by J.J. Weber in Leipzig. The third volume contains 12 replicas of famous menus.

Due to its age the book covers and spines have some wear and tear (especially the top and bottom of the spine and the side of the spine). The back of volume 1 has wear and stains. The back of volume 2 has a few white stains. The cover of volume 3 has white stains.

Handwritten notes in pencil on the title page of the first two volumes. The first page of the third volume has notes in pencil. The name of a previous owner with the date 1910 is written in all volumes in ink.

Pages in all 3 volumes are in very good condition for being 115 years old. Some foxing (especially around the outsides of the pages). Very limited amount of pages might have small stains. The title page and the Vorwort (4 pages in total) became detached in the third volume.

Volume 3 contains beautiful replicas of menu cards glued to black papers. After more than a century it seems a few replicas became unstuck, but they can be easily glued back on the black papers.

Vintage edition of the classic cookbook by the famous German culinary author Henriette Davidis-Holle published in 1900 (38th edition) by Velhagen & Klasing (Bielefeld & Leipzig). The book is beautifully illustrated throughout. Due to its age the book and binding has wear and tear. Page before the title page is damaged (small holes) and tear on bottom of page 166 (see photos). The pages have foxing and some stains. Handwritten notes on p. 150, 152, 161 and on one of the last pages of the book (see photos).
