Viene comunemente definita pietra moldavite, ma in realtà è una sostanza vetrosa naturale (del gruppo delle tectiti) di color verde bottiglia trasparente la cui formazione risale a 15 milioni di anni fa a seguito della caduta di un enorme meteorite nella regione dell’attuale Repubblica Ceca. Le schegge di rocce fuse a seguito dell’impatto si sono raffreddate in volo e sparse fino a 400 km di distanza nel territorio del fiume Moldava da cui questo materiale prende il nome. Insomma, un cristallo che arriva dallo spazio.
