This exquisite jewelry box, crafted by the renowned metalsmith Kobayashi Shoun, features a stunning inlay design of Mt. Fuji. Created in the Taisho or early Showa period, the box showcases the exceptional skill of Shoun, a master of traditional Japanese metalwork. Known for his mastery in working with pure silver, Shoun's works, especially those depicting Mt. Fuji, are highly regarded for their detailed craftsmanship and elegant design.

The surface of the box lid is adorned with a depiction of Mt. Fuji, meticulously rendered with inlays. The frame of the lid is crafted from silver, while the detailed inlay work of the mountain is made from brass, creating a captivating contrast between the two metals. The inner sides of the box is further lined with a soft velvet interior to protect valuable items. The main body of the box also features a silver frame, adding to its luxurious and refined appearance.

Kobayashi Shoun is recognized as one of Japan's distinguished metalwork artists, celebrated for his precise metal inlay and engraving techniques. His works are considered valuable treasures among collectors and have influenced later generations of artists. One of his notable students, Chosa Yoshiyuki, who went on to receive the Order of Culture, studied under Shoun in 1930.

The box bears the maker's mark "Shoun 照雲" on the front and the inscriptions "Ginsei 銀製 (Silver)" and "Shobido 尚美堂" on the bottom. Shobido is a workshop in Osaka known for producing high-quality metalworks. The box is in good condition with some slight surface wear, patina, and minor green tarnish on the Fuji inlay, typical of aging. Please refer to the photos for a more detailed view of the condition.
