Presumably second because at the end of the book there is a 16 page list of the publisher's other works, headed August 1889. The first and second editions were both released in 1889. I found a second edition for sale online, dated 1889 on the title page, and it has exactly the same publishers list with the same August 1889 date
Decorated gilt cover, binding and all edges, front pages and title page missing, poor condition.
Two black and white plates missing, five remaining. Tape repaired.
Front cover and cover on spine slightly loose. Some foxing, no writing or defacement
390 pages, ( 16 pp adverts)
