A six-head stereo tape deck
featuring bi-directional recording, auto-reverse and repeat playback.
Three motors were employed: one 2-speed 4-pole/8-pole hysteresis synchronous
capstan drive and two 6-pole induction reel motors. Operation was via
electronic solenoid push-button controls.
The two record and two playback heads used a new type of high-density
molybdenum permalloy cores and were ‘case-mounted’ with leads plugged
in rather than soldered. This supposedly eliminated damage caused by soldering
heat and provided a convenient means of head replacement if necessary.
The 7500 could be operated in either a horizontal or vertical position.
