Felice Auguste Rezia (Italian, 1835 – 1907) An Italianate riverside sunset landscape with figures Provenance: signed lower left and dated 1890 From a private London collection Overall measurements with the frame are 43 cm x 33 cm x 3 cm and the painting itself measuring 35 cm x 25 cm A charming 19th century oil on canvas painting of an Italianate riverside scene with the Italian Alps in the background and figures in the foreground with boating and a beckoning sunset. Felice Auguste Rezia was born in Italy in 1835. He travelled widely but appears to have settled in London, marrying Mary Ann Shenstone on 31st December, 1870 at Marylebone. By 1881, the family was living in Camden, however he continued to travel to the continent to paint, earning a living from those on the Grand Tour. Rezia’s paintings were highly popular with tourists during his lifetime and continue to be well collected. The painting offered is very typical of the style and theme of the artists work . Since 1998 the record price for this artist at auction is 16,250 USD for On the Bacino de San Marco - Venice, 1891, sold at Hindman, St. Louis in 2019. It may have been restored some years ago with more recent retouching and one tiny invisible repair to the lower right hand sky with associated retouching but is in good clean condition with stable paint layer and the canvas is in good tension. There are no patch repair to the verso but tiny evidence of the repair to the front from the back about 1 mm in length. A charming 19th century oil on canvas painting of an Italianate riverside scene with the Italian Alps in the background and figures in the foreground with boating and a beckoning sunset.

Felice Auguste Rezia was born in Italy in 1835. He travelled widely but appears to have settled in London, marrying Mary Ann Shenstone on 31st December, 1870 at Marylebone. By 1881, the family was living in Camden, however he continued to travel to the continent to paint, earning a living from those on the Grand Tour.

Rezia’s paintings were highly popular with tourists during his lifetime and continue to be well collected.

The painting offered is very typical of the style and theme of the artists work .
