The calligraphy box is adorned with a Nashiji ground and features a beautiful makie design of 'Hozu River 保津川' located in Kyoto Arashiyama 京都 嵐山, depicting a temple, bridge, torii gate, pine trees, and mountains. The design is highlighted with gold and silver makie, with small gold leaf squares providing additional accents. The landscape motifs on the calligraphy box symbolize tranquility, natural beauty, and spiritual serenity. The temple represents a place of worship and peace, the river signifies the flow of life, the bridge suggests connection, the torii gate symbolizes the entrance to sacred space, and the pine trees and mountains denote longevity and endurance. The set shows signs of wear consistent with age, including scratches, small chips, discoloration, and patina.
