Byôbu 屏風 (składany parawan) - Papier, Brokatowy jedwab, lakierowane drewno - Japonia - Późny okres Shôwa, lata 60. i 70. XX wieku
Lovely low four-panel byôbu 屏風 (folding screen) with a Rinpa School-style painting depicting a pair of geese are captured in mid-flight, their wings elegantly spread as they soar low through the sky. Just above the water where some reed stalks are sticking out.
The background is a gradient of muted, earthy tones, transitioning from darker shades at the bottom to lighter, more diffused hues at the top, suggesting a misty or foggy atmosphere.
Signed and sealed in the lower right corner: 知足打一止作.
Watercolour and ink on paper. Surrounded by two ecru brocade silk borders. Framed by black lacquered wood with protective metal hardware.
Period: Japan - Late Shôwa period, 1960’s-70’s.
Dimension:
Total width 185.2 cm (2 x 47.4 cm and 2 x 45.2 cm), Height 91.7 cm.
It is in a very good condition with minimal signs of age. Tiny restoration right panel, and paper restoration at the backside. Please have a look at the photos for a clear condition reference.
Due to its small size and because the screen is light in weight, the byôbu is very suitable to be mounted flat on a wall and presented as one piece of art.
When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
