Ancient Egyptian Faience Ushabti
Circa 664-332 BC - Late Period
This faience ushabti in its mummiform representation, features a columnar body with hands held on the chest, each holding a flail and a hoe, both enhanced with black pigment. The figurine wears a tripartite wig and displays a nicely detailed face.
Ushabtis were essential elements in ancient Egyptian funerary practices, commonly placed in tombs to serve the deceased in the afterlife. These figurines were believed to come to life and perform various tasks on behalf of the deceased in the Egyptian concept of the afterworld.
