A restrung Western Asiatic necklace composed of cream-coloured hardstone beads and featuring a central shell pendant. The beads vary in shape, gradually increasing in size towards the centrepiece. The centrepiece is framed by two long tubular beads, divided by three small beads. The centrepiece itself is comprised of three beads, one light and tubular, one darker and spherical, and a triangular, leaf-shape shell piece at the very centre. Each bead features unique hues of cream, white, orange and brown alongside natural striations. Earthy encrustations throughout. Please note this necklace is unclasped and threaded on string. Jewellery is thought to be one of the oldest forms of art within history, with the presence of rings, bangles and necklaces’ being present in almost all ancient societies. The Western Asiatic during Mesopotamia is home to many interesting and unique jewellery patterns, with hardstone being the common material of choice for ancient citizens to decorate themselves with. The sophisticated nature of the society can be seen through their jewellery making skills with elaborate patterns and carvings being common find.
