The lid features a detailed maki-e design of autumn leaves on a dark red lacquer base. Maki-e is a decoration technique where designs are painted with lacquer and sprinkled with gold or silver powder. One of the leaves is inlaid with mother-of-pearl, using the raden technique, which involves thin layers of mother-of-pearl or abalone shell to create intricate designs. The lower part of the container is decorated with a pear-skin texture (nashiji) and a translucent lacquer (tamenuri) finish. Nashiji resembles the skin of a pear, achieved by sprinkling gold or silver powder onto a still-tacky lacquer surface and then covering it with more layers of lacquer. Tamenuri creates a glossy, translucent finish, allowing the base color to subtly show through, highlighting the intricate artistry involved. The original wooden box includes the artist's signature and seal. There is minor wear and a small chip on the edge where the lid fits. Please refer to the photos for the condition.
