This rug was made in the famous Turkish city of Hereke, known for the highest quality silk rugs in Turkey and perhaps the world. This vintage rug features a classical mihrab design with two ornate columns, characteristic of prayer rugs, housing another classic vase and chandelier design. The field and borders are adorned with floral motifs. This rug features a tranquil ivory field surrounded by a passionate crimson red and ivory border. These silk rugs are tightly woven with a high knot count 90 knots per square centimeter, 900,000 knots per square meter. The silk glows in the light and has a unique appearance from every angle. The fringe ends are classic kilim ends. This rug contains a double selvedge, a characteristic hallmark of Hereke rugs. The rug is signed "Hereke" in Arabic script, on the top left corner. Condition: In good condition for its age, with some signs of usage. Some light discoloration in top fringe (see photos) Age: Approximately 50 years.
