Large Indian Dokra oil lamp.
A rare large size Indian Dokra oil lamp from the Bastar tribes of Orissa or Chhattisgarh
An elephant stands on an elaborate base and supports the stambhaand on top of which is the “yoni” shaped oil container ( representing the female genitalia) and with two lingams ( phallic symbols of the God Shiva) on either side of the spout. Made by the lost wax method of metal casting “Cire perdue”
This is a well used piece and the patination is indicative of an early 19th century origin or even before that date
