An extremely well executed Koran from 1590 which was saved from a disband and water damaged Koran. It was scribed in Herat (Afghanistan) in early Muhaqqaq script.
The folio is divided into two district halves of 6 lines of scripture, with verses delineated with gold 'aya', which are themselves divided into 6 sections by thin blue dividing lines. the centre of the aya is a red dot. Each block of scripture is framed by two distinctive marginal floral illuminations in gold with blue lined surrounds. There are three headings, one at the top, one dividing the scripture and one at the bottom. These are scripted in thicker gold muhaqqaq. The whole and the headings are first framed in thin gold linear marking and then a much thicker gold frame. A single blue frame completed the folio.
The folio does show worm;e damage (small dots) but these do not detract from the striking nature of this manuscript.
