Signature: A-C1-6, a-z1-6, A-Z1-6, Aa-Kk1-6, aaa-ccc1-6, ddd1-8, a-k1-6, l1-8, A-B1-6, C1-8; B3 misbound. Woodcut printer’s device on title page, repeated on verso of Kk6 (verso of p. 671), a1 (title of the index) and on last page (verso ov C8); woodcut initials. Contemporary calf, blind-tooled. corners and spine skilfully restored, fascinating end-papers from a XVth century bible leaves , some handwritten annotations in an ancient hand. Fourth Erasmus’ edition, first published in 1525 and reprinted until 1554, all by Frobenius. The introductory letter by Erasmus, unsigned, is dedicated to Bishop Estanislao Turzo and dated “MDXXV. sesto Idus Februar” and is reprinted in all the following Froben editions. “Erasmus's dedicatory epistle to Bishop Stanislaus Turzo which precedes the edition of Pliny the Elder's Naturalis Historia was first published in Basel in 1525 ... Erasmus's name is not expressly mentioned anywhere in the epistle ... only the name of Hermolao Barbaro is mentioned. ... The Erasmian letter-prologue that precedes the edition of Pliny's “Naturalis Historia” of 1525 published under the name of “Historia mundi”, was maintained in subsequent editions...” (Ramos Maldonado, translated, p. 344-346). “The Erasmian letter-prologue that precedes the Frobenian edition of the XXXVII books of the Historia Mundi written by Pliny must be read in the context of the so-called 'Cicerorian controversies' and the controversy of Ciceronianism in the Renaissance.” (Ramos Maldonado, translated, p. 374). “Very scarce. Based on Erasmus' edition issued by Froben in 1525 (his dedicatory letter dated 8 Feb. 1525 is here reprinted), this edition includes the “Castigationes” of Sigismund Gelen ([52] p., 1st group of paging) and an index based on that of Joannes Camers (i. e.
