岡田米山人 Okada Beisanjin (1744-1820)
Nanga Bunjin painter in Osaka in the late Edo period. He worked as a rice merchant in Osaka and studied while dealing rice, hence he named himself Bei (rice) sanjin. He seems to have been self-taught, and most of his paintings were produced after the age of 50. He painted elegant landscapes with clear colors and elegant brushstrokes. He recognized 田能村竹田 Tanomura Chikuden's extraordinary talent for painting. and encouraged him. Beisanjin was a close friend of 浦上玉堂 Uragami Gyokudo (1745-1820). 岡田半江 Okada Hanko (1782-1846) was his son.
