‘Lithographs printed from stones that were destroyed by the printer after publication.’ Written in pencil on front endpaper.

The drawings are of the puppets and scenes, as seen when the play was performed in the ‘theatro Stella Cerere’ in Naples, Italy. Shortly afterwards this theatre was destroyed by a terrible fire.

Angelica and Orlando is a traditional play which centres on the reign of Emperor Charles, and his many battles against the pagans. It is also a love story between Angelica and Orlando and explores the themes of madness, love and recovery.

As well as the colour plates the book is also illustrated on nearly every page with smaller drawings depicting the play in charcoal, (black and white).
Plates are all clean and in great condition.

Pastedown slight mark, cover is generally in nice condition.
