This exquisite mikoshi (portable shrine) is a work by the first-generation master craftsman Okabe Takeshi. The mikoshi is a sacred Shinto palanquin, temporarily housing the spirit of a deity during traditional festivals. Typically enshrined in a Shinto shrine, the spirit is ceremonially transferred into the mikoshi and paraded through the community or to a designated destination. This sacred procession serves as a vital purification ritual, removing misfortune and impurities from the region.

A wooden plaque accompanies the shrine, with the following inscription: "Mikoshi: The mikoshi has been a cherished symbol in Japan since ancient times. Its allure lies in the powerful, three-dimensional impression and its weighty, forceful presence, along with its elegant curves and meticulous detailing that are harmoniously balanced. The artist has strived to replicate this beauty through entirely handcrafted techniques." Signed and sealed by Okabe Takeshi I, master mikoshi craftsman.

At the top of the mikoshi is a phoenix, symbolizing rebirth, peace, and prosperity in Japanese culture. The roof is adorned with a mitsudomoe crest, which is a traditional Japanese design of three swirling comma-like shapes. The mitsudomoe is often seen as a symbol of the cyclical nature of life and the unity of the heavens, earth, and humankind.

The mikoshi exhibits wear consistent with age, including minor scuffs, some stains, and slight discoloration of the cords. Two parts of the phoenix's tail are missing, and one is detached. Please refer to the photos for a detailed view of the condition.

Lot de masques noh conforme et bien emballés/protégés. Les frais en plus, VAT et dédouanement, corsent sérieusement la note (30% en plus des 9% de catawiki) mais le vendeur n'y est pour rien !
