Se oversettelseAnthony Trollope - The Three Clerks - 1858
Nr. 89506219
A first edition of Anthony Trollope's The Three Clerks, published in 1858 across three volumes. It is an important work within his early canon, marking a key stage in his development as a novelist. This novel delves into themes of public service, bureaucracy, and personal ambition, set against the backdrop of mid-Victorian England
The set has been finely rebound in a modern half morocco binding, complemented by marbled boards and gilt spine decoration. The title pages of all three volumes exhibit noticeable browning at the corners, a result of turn-ins from a previous binding. In volume two, sigs. K-L lower corners creased, as depicted in the accompanying photos. The pages also show significant foxing and discolouration and evidence of previously folded corners. The covers of all three volumes remain in very good condition. Additionally, the title page of volume one shows some wear towards the spine, which is also visible in the accompanying images.
The Three Clerks is one of Trollope’s early novels, where his social commentary and satirical wit shine, exploring themes of bureaucracy, personal ambition, and morality within the Victorian public service. This set is a charming example of Trollope’s developing literary style.
