Okimono in avorio che raffigura un elegante danzatore del teatro Noh, in piena esecuzione, con in mano due ventagli, strumenti tradizionali utilizzati nelle performance teatrali. Il personaggio indossa un elaborato kimono, le cui pieghe sono scolpite con cura per suggerire il movimento fluido e aggraziato del corpo durante la danza.
Accanto al danzatore, poggiata su una scatola, si trova una maschera Noh, elemento fondamentale del teatro giapponese, utilizzata per rappresentare varie emozioni e personaggi. La maschera è scolpita con estrema precisione, rivelando dettagli sottili nel suo volto enigmatico e immobile.
Vicino alla maschera, è scolpito anche uno sho, flauto giapponese, che richiama l'importanza della musica nelle rappresentazioni teatrali. Ogni elemento – dalla postura del danzatore, ai ventagli, alle pieghe del kimono – esprime un senso di armonia e raffinatezza.
---L'okimono è in ottime condizioni. E' presente una piccola sbeccatura sul codino della manica sinistra e un ritocco a livello del ventaglio posteriore. Si prega di fare riferimento alle immagini per ulteriori dettagli.
La parola "Okimono" deriva dal giapponese e significa letteralmente “Oggetto da collocare” composta dai kanji "oki" (置き), che significa collocare e "mono" (物), che significa oggetto.
Queste sculture decorative sono state particolarmente apprezzate nel periodo Meiji verso la fine del XIX secolo, grazie alla forte richiesta proveniente dai paesi occidentali.
Gli scultori e gli artigiani giapponesi avevano già dimostrato la loro abilità nella lavorazione di materiali come le lacche, i bronzi e i netsuke, grazie alla loro eccellente capacità nell'intaglio e nell'intarsio. Successivamente, alcuni di loro si sono dedicati a scolpire l’avorio, corno e blocchi di legno, bosso in particolare.
Tra le scuole di scultura più importanti ricordiamo la Tokyo School fondata da Ishikawa Komei, nonché importanti scultori come Shimamura Shunmei e Yoshida Homei.
