French School (XIX Century) - very beautiful pair of oil on canvas paintings after Pierre Émile Metzmacher (French, 1815 - 1890) - "La Leçon de Peinture" and "La Leçon de Musique " ("The Painting Lesson" and "The Music Lesson").

Both paintings very beautifully restored by a professional shop. Both with extensive labels on reverse (labels from restoration, from art gallery, from auction rooms). Both titled on plaques on reverse.

Both attributed after French painter as signature in black, lower left corner - "d('apres) Metzmacher".

Pierre Émile Metzmacher was a Parisian painter of the 19th century specialising in genre and portraiture. A student of Boulanger, Gleyre and Willems and a highly appreciated painter himself, he debuted at the Salon de peinture et de sculpture in 1863. His style exhibited a fluent line and a brave colour palette, evident in these two oils painted by one of the followers of his work.

Both paintings were preserved in an excellent state of conservation, especially after their restoration. Beautiful, strong colours. A lady taking music lessons and painting lessons from different teachers, in a garden.

Both paintings not framed.

Dimensions of both paintings - 41.1 x 33.3 cm.
