Written by Robert Freke Gould, who was best known for this work, being a prominent Freemason. He was also a soldier and barrister. He was one of the founders of the Quatuor Coronati Lodge in 1886, as he and his fellows had been unsatisfied with the way that Freemasonry history had been offered in the past. Gould was the second Master of the lodge.
The book is illustrated with 8 full-page plates. Published by Gale & Polden, Ltd, London, 1903. Publishers’ original maroon boards, with gilt Masonic symbols ’Coat of Arms’ and gilt lettering on upper cover and spine.
Book Dimensions: 22 x 14 x 5 cm and Number of pages: 448 + 2 pages of publishers’ works
Condition
Light wear to corners, edges, and to head and foot of spine, with faded water marks on covers; more to rear. Internally; in good condition. A name on first front free endpaper pages. Some splits to inner hinges but pages are tightly held at gutters. Pages are clean with some staining marks to page edges. All illustrations are present, and in good condition (Please see pictures).
