Inscription content: Lettered with production detail: 'Peint par Guido Reni / Gravé par N. Maviez', title, and 'De la Galerie de S.A.S. Monseigneur le Duc d'Orléans', 'Ecole de Lombardie', 'IVe Tableau de Guido-Reni', dimensions of original painting, and seven lines of description in French. 'Gal. Palais Royal' stamped at the bottom.
From 'Galerie du Palais Royal', a set published between 1786 and 1808;
These prints were a record of one of the greatest collections of old master paintings owned by the Duke of Orléans ( who became Philippe d’Égalité during the revolution before he lost his head). The book became a catalogue for the sale and dispersal of this collection housed in the Palais Royale in Paris.
