Louis-Léopold Boilly (1761-1845)- Circle of Title: A small half-length portrait of a lady holding flowers. Period circa 1800 Medium: Oil on canvas Provenance : From a private French collection Overall size with the original Gilt French period frame is 33 cm x 29 cm x 4 cm and the painting measuring 20 cm x 16 cm A very charming and characterful small late 18th / esarly 19th century oil on canvas half - length portraits of a lady in period attire holding flowers . The painting is close to the work of both Louis-Léopold Boilly (1761-1845 and the Parisian painter Henri-Nicolas van Gorp ( 1759-1819. The , what we believe to be the original frame is very close to many used at the time for Boilly's small portraits and there is what appears to be a very old ( possibly original) supplier label to the verso. Needs further research. The work is close to both of the artist mentioned above. Boilly was born near Lille; he first worked in Douai, then Arras, and finally in Paris, from 1785. He exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1791 and 1824. He painted genre scenes and small portraits which was the genre for which he is probably best known for. Condition report: The painting is in original Unlined condition and is in very good condition for its antiquity. There are no repairs to the canvas verso. The original period frame appears to have had a few small restorations. Please refer to the kites below regarding frames. Please note: The frame that is included in the pictures above has been added to the artwork by a third party/the seller, as such it’s not an integral part of the object. The frame is being provided to you at no additional costs so that when your artwork arrives at your house you can immediately display it on your wall. As such any damages to the frame itself, that do not affect the integrity of the artwork, cannot be accepted as a valid reason to open a claim or request a cancellation. We would also point out that whilst we insure all paintings before shipping that we have no control over shipping once we have sent the painting . The successful bidder will be responsible for paying any import duties and any associated VAT in the country of destination . Please refer to the auction terms regarding this before bidding.
