Dochugappa(道中合羽) is a cloak worn when traveling.
It was used mainly by samurai, merchants, and townspeople to protect them from the cold and to waterproof them.
The kappa originated in the Momoyama period (1573-1600), when it was modeled after the capa, a cloak worn by Spanish missionaries and others.
It was worn like a cloak and fastened around the neck with a fastener.
It is made of indigo-dyed cotton cloth with stripes on the front and a kasuri lining, piped with cloth dyed in a color between beige and brown.
The fabric is thick and the quality of the cotton is high, and the period of production is the first half of the 20th century.
