Higuchi, Taro - 1 Original page - Never awakening dream - 1969

Amazing original page by Taro Higuchi published in Tezuka's Com sci-fi & fantasy mangazine (April 1969)

Taro Higuchi has mainly written and drawn one-shots / graphic novels, for Osamu Tezuka's COM, Top Punch, Roman Junior [Shueisha] but also erotic work and cartoons. Between June 1968 and December 1971 he published 14 stories in COM before disappearing almost completely from the manga scene!

Similar to Vivian Maier's photographs, his work was discovered, after his death, in a warehouse and slowly grew into an underground cult status!
His often textless stories portrayed the social conditions of the late 60s and early 70s with a dark Horror Manga undertone. You can see the influences of other great mangaka of the late 60's and 70's such as Yu Takita. He had a unique drawing style that was influenced by, and can even be linked to, Akira 'Aquirax' Uno, but also to the American satirical comic magazine 'MAD' ...
His unique style (and dark humor) gave his work the much deserved appreciation and it can now be found in the bigger Manga collections as well as in museums, archives etc
